Nail Disorders

Dermatologists are experts in diseases of the hair, skin, and nails. Many patients suffer from onychomycosis, which is a fungal infection of the toenails or fingernails. Contrary to popular belief, this can often be easily and safely treated with oral medication.

Nails may also become infected with bacteria, hide certain types of skin cancer, or change with aging. In addition, many other nail changes are associated with skin disease such as psoriasis or alopecia areata, or other systemic diseases such as kidney failure, low albumin, poisoning, or heart problems.
